The George and Dragon is a Newcastle city centre pub that is attached to the Eldon Square Shopping centre It is a pub on two levels, one level opens out onto Old Eldon Square, where the city war memorial is located, and the other half goes under the shopping centre and opens out at the Eldon Square Bus Station.

* {For those across the pond a shopping mall} The Eldon Square Shopping centre opened in 1976 and this year celebrates 25 years of being open. When it was opened, it was heralded as the first of its kind - and the largest in Europe (See www.eldon-square.co.uk )

Desert: Sticky Toffee Pudding

Drink: 2 pints of Diet Cokes

Waiting Time Waiting time for the main course was almost instantaneous, as there is a section next to the bar devoted to food, where they have the serving dishes of various food items, ready to serve. When I was getting the second drink, in the time it took to get the second drink the desert was served.
Quality of Service

You order from the separate food counter and they bring it across when the food is ready. Cutlery is collected at the food counter

Menu Variety The menu had a number of different sections, including: Traditional pies; lite bites; side orders, tea and coffee; Main courses; burgers; Jacket potatoes; deserts. The menu also advises to consider the managers specials for that day.
Ambience As mentioned in the introduction, the pub is on two main levels, at the top is the entrance in Old Eldon Square and at the lower level is the entrance in the Eldon Square Bus station. The food is served at the lower level. This lower level has a raised area for a no smoking section. The seating is of a traditional nature.

On the walls there is an eclectic mix of prints of people from the 19th century, old pictures of Newcastle. and mirrors. On the lower level I counted 3 electronic gaming machines, 1 juke box. There were 2 TVs (one with MTV), and 2 Big screen TV projectors

Quality of Food The main course was quite nice, tasty and filling. I was given the choice of chips or potatoes, so I chose potatoes, and had a mix of mash and roast potatoes.

The Sticky Toffee pudding was nice hot, light and quite delicious, a delight to the taste buds.

Tie in with bar Food has to be ordered at the separate food section, which is next to the downstairs bar anyway
Facilities The gents is on the top level (Old Eldon Square), the Ladies is on the lower level (Eldon Square Bus Station)
